Alberta is ready to welcome new immigrants into the province. According to Become A Canadian, the immigration minister is saddled with the responsibility of attracting more health workers into the rural areas of Alberta.

The minister is also tasked with developing anti-racism legislation to help foreign workers settle comfortably in rural areas.

In the words of Alberta’s Minister of immigration and multiculturalism, Muhammad Yaseen:

“We will target needed professions. For example, physicians, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and clinical social workers. The ministry is working closely with the healthcare system to ensure we understand needs as we develop this stream.”

Become A Canadian could confirm that the minister is also supposed to coordinate with the federal government to increase the number of provincial nominees Alberta gets each year.

Yaseen’s priority is streamlining immigration for healthcare workers. Become A Canadian established that the focus is to attract professionals to rural communities with a shortage of doctors and nurses.

Though immigration to Canada is generally coordinated with the federal government, the minister is saddled with the responsibility of getting the federal government to increase the number of nominees Alberta gets every year.

Also, it is notable that provinces can select people who have applied for Canada’s Express Entry based on certain qualifications and training they possess.

“We’re doing whatever we can, and we’re also making sure that when people come here, they have the necessary training and resources concerning language issues, childcare and other related things,” concluded the minister.
